Consultant Rheumatologist

About the role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Consultant Rheumatologist to join its district‑wide Rheumatology Service. The role involves delivering patient‑centred specialist care across multiple hospitals in the Wellington region, supporting patients to manage disease, prevent damage and maintain quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Provide outpatient rheumatology clinics and inpatient consultations across Hutt, Wellington, Kenepuru and Masterton hospitals.
• Participate in the acute on‑call roster, offering timely specialist input for emergencies.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of seven rheumatologists and five specialised nurses.
• Contribute to service development, including expansion of musculoskeletal ultrasound capability.
• Engage in shared decision‑making and active disease management with patients.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with specialist registration in rheumatology.
• Commitment to high‑quality, compassionate patient care.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call duties and service improvement initiatives.

Required skills

• Proficiency in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
