Construction Operator – Civil & Concrete Works

About the role
We are seeking a skilled Operator to join our Civil‑Concrete team in Wellington. The role focuses on operating plant and equipment to support civil construction and road‑building projects, working closely with forepersons and crew members to deliver high‑quality infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Operate construction plant and equipment safely and efficiently under direction.
- Perform civil and concrete tasks such as excavation support, back‑filling, spreading, trimming, loading, compacting and site clean‑up.
- Carry out general labour duties to assist the team when required.
- Complete daily pre‑start checks, basic maintenance and report any faults.
- Follow work plans, JSEAs, specifications and supervisor instructions.
- Support site set‑up and pack‑down, including traffic control and site protection.
- Monitor plant performance, maintain accurate logbooks, timesheets and records.
- Adhere to health, safety and environmental procedures, including spill response and housekeeping.
- Communicate effectively with spotters, crew members and supervisors.
Required profile
- Experience operating a grader for maintenance and final trim works.
- Ability to operate additional machinery such as excavators, rollers, mid‑mounts, loaders or trucks (a plus).
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental practices.
- Capability to perform general labour tasks and work as part of a team.
- Understanding of construction site processes and requirements.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Valid Class 1 driver licence (required); Class 2 or 4 licence and WTR endorsements are desirable.
