Conservation Supervisor – Te Anau

About the role

The Conservation Supervisor will lead a seasonal team of Hut Rangers based in Te Anau, supporting the operation of iconic Great Walks such as Kepler, Milford and Routeburn. This permanent position ensures the team is well‑coordinated and equipped to deliver high‑quality conservation outcomes throughout the busy season (October – May).

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on field supervision and support while overseeing day‑to‑day operations.
• Lead a large seasonal ranger workforce, setting clear priorities and fostering strong team cohesion.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate district recruitment and work with regional colleagues for integrated delivery.
• Occasionally work weekends during the summer period as required.

Required profile

• Natural leader who thrives in dynamic, outdoor environments.
• Passionate about conservation and committed to safety and mental wellbeing.
• Proactive communicator with a ‘can‑do’ attitude.
• Full NZ driver licence.

Required skills

• Leadership and coaching experience in field‑based teams, preferably within conservation.
• Ability to plan, monitor and report on work delivery.
• Technologically savvy and comfortable using digital tools.
