About the role
The Compliance Officer will support the Customer and Community Group in ensuring the city complies with the Resource Management Act (RMA) and the Building Act. This people‑focused position involves investigating complaints, monitoring building activities, and working closely with residents to resolve issues fairly and promptly.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve noise complaints under the RMA.
- Investigate building work and environmental compliance complaints.
- Monitor buildings and facilities, including pools, to ensure legislative compliance.
- Identify and address illegal, dangerous, or insanitary work.
- Enforce the Building Act 2004 and RMA 1991, issuing notices and tracking compliance actions.
- Maintain accurate records and photographic evidence.
- Support the Building Consent Authority accreditation process.
- Advise management on potential legal actions.
- Build positive relationships with customers and deliver professional service.

Required skills
- Knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA).
- Knowledge of the Building Act and Building Code.
- Familiarity with wider building controls and compliance processes.
