Community Kaitiaki (Fixed‑Term) – East Christchurch

About the role

The Kaitiaki will work within the Kā Au Kahuraki initiative to provide primary prevention and early intervention support for tamariki and their whānau enrolled in early childhood education (ECE) services across East Christchurch. This fixed‑term position runs until July 2027 and focuses on building safe, healthy, and connected community environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with teachers, families, and community partners in designated early learning centres.
• Facilitate holistic wellbeing (hauora) activities and connect families with health, social and support services.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Education Kā Au Kahuraki team to design neighbourhood and community hub projects.
• Collect and report on community impact data to demonstrate outcomes.
• Identify community needs and initiate projects such as parent‑engagement events or resource hubs.

Required profile

• Experience or strong connections within the East Christchurch community.
• Background in early childhood education, NGOs, not‑for‑profit organisations, or social work (advantageous but not essential).
• Ability to work independently, build trust and sustain relationships.

Required skills

• Community engagement and relationship‑building.
• Understanding of early childhood wellbeing and holistic health concepts.
• Basic reporting and data collection.
