Community & Engagement Advisor

About the role

The Community & Engagement Advisor will shape how local voices are heard and represented across Kaipara. Based in Dargaville, this full‑time position offers flexible working and the opportunity to lead engagement that directly influences Council planning and decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver community engagement for Council projects, plans and initiatives.
• Facilitate public meetings, workshops and feedback opportunities.
• Provide engagement advice to project teams and decision‑makers.
• Build and maintain relationships with iwi, community groups and key stakeholders.
• Translate community feedback into practical insights that shape outcomes.

Required profile

• Resourceful and collaborative individual with excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to connect with and foster respectful relationships across diverse stakeholders, including iwi.
• Experience designing and delivering engagement plans or consultation activities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Understanding of local government, community development or public sector engagement practice.
• Current valid NZ driver’s licence (regular regional travel required).
