Communications Advisor

About the role

Waikato Waters is building a new, publicly owned water and wastewater utility for the Waikato region. As the organisation merges six legacy councils, clear and trusted communication is essential. The Communications Advisor will craft compelling stories, support leaders, and help communities understand the utility’s work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop engaging internal and external communications across multiple channels.
• Support senior leaders with communication planning, change communications and engagement activities.
• Create high‑quality written, digital and visual content for diverse audiences.
• Assist with media enquiries, public information requests and Official Information Act responses.
• Provide culturally responsive communication and engagement with Māori communities.
• Protect and promote the Waikato Waters brand through consistent messaging.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in communications, engagement, public affairs or a similar role.
• Outstanding writing and editing abilities, adaptable to different audiences and channels.
• Proven experience supporting communication planning, campaigns or organisational change.
• Experience working with media and coordinating Official Information Act responses.
• Understanding of respectful engagement with Māori communities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
