Communications Advisor (Internal)

About the role

The University of Waikato is seeking a Communications Advisor to join its award‑winning internal communications team on the Hamilton campus. This 12‑month fixed‑term position offers the chance to develop internal communications expertise while supporting a vibrant university community of 12,000 students and 2,000 staff.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, create and distribute engaging internal communications content across multiple channels.
• Translate complex university information into clear, concise messages for staff and students.
• Support day‑to‑day operational communications with a strategic perspective.
• Contribute to external and corporate communications projects when required.
• Maintain brand consistency and uphold confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in communications.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all organisational levels.
• Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (M365) and SharePoint.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to distil complex information.
