Cloud Engineer

About the role

You will join the Cloud team at NZ Transport Agency, working on large‑scale, real‑world platforms across multiple locations in New Zealand. The role focuses on delivering modern, secure, and reliable cloud solutions, primarily on Microsoft Azure, while also exposing you to AWS, GCP and SaaS services.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and evolve the agency’s cloud environment to support digital innovation at scale.
• Develop and enforce technical strategy, standards and best practices across the cloud landscape.
• Collaborate with engineering, product and vendor teams to design, implement and troubleshoot cloud services.
• Implement infrastructure‑as‑code using PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI and Python.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and support continuous delivery of cloud applications.

Required profile

• Experienced engineer thriving in fast‑paced, agile environments.
• Deep hands‑on experience with core Azure services (VMs, networking, EntraID/Azure AD, AKS, App Services).
• Proven expertise with IaC tools such as PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI, Python and GitHub/Azure DevOps.
• Background in complex technology operations and knowledge of Agile and ITIL frameworks.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross‑functional work.
