Civil Driver Operator (Class 2 & Class 4/5)

About the role

Downer Wellington is seeking motivated Driver Operators to support a variety of maintenance, renewal and construction projects across the Wellington region. The role combines operating heavy machinery, transporting materials and assisting on‑site crews, offering a varied and outdoor‑focused workday.

Key responsibilities

• Operate asphalt pavers, rollers and skidsteers on road construction and surfacing projects.
• Transport materials and equipment to and from job sites safely and efficiently.
• Assist crews on‑site, including positioning vehicles, reversing, tipping and supporting project progress.
• Conduct regular vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safety compliance.
• Work collaboratively with team members to keep projects moving and meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Class 2 or Class 4/5 driver licence (WTR endorsement desirable).
• At least 3 years of experience operating asphalt pavers, rollers or skidsteers in road construction or surfacing.
• Physically fit, reliable and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Strong focus on safety and willingness to support the team beyond the cab.
