Category Specialist – Procurement

About the role

Transpower is seeking a Category Specialist to support the Strategic Procurement team in delivering category and sourcing strategies for strategic equipment and materials. You will work closely with Senior Category Managers to develop and implement procurement plans that ensure long‑term commercial value, risk management, and operational reliability for the national grid.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and design fit‑for‑purpose sourcing approaches.
• Lead category procurement activities, including market analysis, sourcing models, and contract negotiations.
• Manage supplier contracts and relationships to achieve planned outcomes and sustain long‑term value.
• Own Supplier Relationship Management outcomes, monitoring risk, performance, and improvement opportunities.
• Execute procurement strategies across the lifecycle, balancing cost, safety, environmental, quality, delivery, operability, and maintainability considerations.
• Build technical knowledge of strategic procurement categories within the energy sector.

Required profile

• Proven experience providing specialist procurement support for end‑to‑end procurements.
• Strong ability to analyse markets, develop sourcing models, and manage supplier performance.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Capability to work collaboratively with senior procurement professionals.
