Category Manager (Commercial)

About the role

We are seeking a Category Manager to join our Commercial team in Favona, Auckland. You will be responsible for driving category performance through supplier collaboration, strategic planning and execution of initiatives that increase sales, improve profit and enhance the customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements that align with customer needs and commercial objectives.
• Develop and execute category plans that provide a clear roadmap for supply partners, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment.
• Drive sales growth and profit improvement by implementing strategic category initiatives that optimise product offerings and merchandising strategies.
• Identify and capitalise on opportunities that enhance customer satisfaction, streamline store operations and reduce costs.
• Continuously evaluate supplier capabilities, proactively seek new partnerships and cultivate existing relationships to secure long‑term competitive advantage.

Required profile

• Prior experience as an Assistant Category Manager or Category Manager.
• Proven success in developing and executing customer‑focused category plans aligned with divisional strategy and supported by commercial insights and data.
• Strong negotiation and influence skills with cross‑functional and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience conducting category reviews.
• Ability to become an industry expert in the relevant field within New Zealand.
