Capability Advisor – Emergency Management (12‑Month)

About the role

The Auckland Council Emergency Management team is seeking a Capability Advisor for a 12‑month fixed‑term role. You will design and deliver engaging training that builds real‑world preparedness for Council staff, volunteers and partner agencies, working from a central Auckland location with flexible hybrid options.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate or co‑facilitate emergency management training as part of the ACES development programme.
• Support the design and development of fit‑for‑purpose training resources, tools and courses for CIMS functions and agency partners.
• Contribute to inter‑agency and community capability‑building efforts across the Auckland CDEM Group.
• Participate in the on‑call and standby emergency response system, performing response and recovery duties as required.

Required profile

• Strong background in designing and delivering training within complex, multi‑agency environments.
• Effective communicator with proven facilitation skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Experience managing competing priorities and coordinating stakeholders across agencies.
• 3+ years of experience in emergency management, recovery, infrastructure or community work.

Required skills

• Experience designing and facilitating training or workshops.
• Working knowledge of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) – advantageous.
• Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
