CAD/CAM Designer (Timber Construction)

About the role

Hector Egger New Zealand is seeking a CAD/CAM Designer to join its Cromwell office. You will work alongside a small team of designers and project managers, creating detailed technical drawings for timber structures. The role is full‑time and on‑site, supporting the entire design‑to‑manufacture process.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate construction and manufacturing drawings for timber components using CAD/CAM tools.
• Develop and refine 3D digital models that translate architectural and engineering concepts into buildable parts.
• Coordinate design details with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure constructability.
• Review designs for compliance with standards, sustainability goals, and off‑site manufacturing requirements.
• Maintain clear documentation and support quality‑control activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Strong technical drawing ability and experience producing construction documentation.
• Experience with design engineering in building, structural, or timber contexts.
• Relevant qualification in engineering, architecture, drafting or equivalent practical experience.
• Understanding of modern methods of construction, off‑site manufacturing and sustainable building practices.
• Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and resolve design issues.

Required skills

• Cadwork software (advantageous).
• Proficiency with CAD tools and CAD/CAM workflows.
• Technical drawing and construction drawing skills.
