Business Services & Tax Manager

About the role

We are partnering with a leading mid‑tier firm in Auckland seeking an experienced Business Services & Tax Manager. Reporting to the Partner, you will manage a diverse portfolio of private clients, from SMEs to high‑net‑worth individuals and groups, delivering compliance, advisory and tax planning services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients across financial statement preparation, income tax returns and GST compliance.
• Provide proactive tax planning and structuring advice for trusts, companies and SMEs.
• Review work prepared by junior staff, offering technical guidance and mentoring.
• Liaise directly with clients to understand their business and identify advisory opportunities.
• Manage engagement budgets, work‑in‑progress and billing.
• Support partners on complex advisory matters such as restructures, succession planning and transactions.

Required profile

• 5+ years’ experience in Business Services & Tax, Public Practice.
• CA/CPA (Chartered Accountant, CA ANZ) qualified or nearing completion.
• Strong technical knowledge of New Zealand tax law, financial reporting and compliance obligations.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and a portfolio with minimal oversight.
• Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Practice management and accounting software (e.g., Xero, CCH).
