Business Development Manager

About the role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is the key link between Unilever’s front‑line retail teams and the company’s growth strategy in New Zealand. Working across major grocery chains, the BDM drives execution of category and customer plans to increase sales and market share.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a territory business plan to achieve growth targets.
• Present Unilever Business Reviews and use Dunnhumby and Nielsen data to create data‑driven sales stories.
• Manage the ‘Perfect Store’ process to implement best‑in‑class in‑store practices.
• Execute the Unilever Field Activity Plan and maintain strong relationships with store owners, grocery managers and buyers.
• Participate in internal BDM meetings, go‑to‑market sessions and Unilever conferences.
• Escalate non‑compliance issues using Foodstuffs official processes and coordinate resolutions with Unilever Commercial Managers.
• Identify and negotiate incremental store‑based opportunities such as shelf space, displays, events and clearance relays.
• Act as Unilever’s voice in stores, sharing brand updates, product information and market insights.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development or sales within a retail environment.
• Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with store stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience turning data insights into actionable sales strategies.
• Comfort presenting business reviews and negotiating shelf‑space and promotional opportunities.
