Business Development Manager – Innovation

About the role

The Business Development Manager (Innovation) will join Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES), an NHS Regional Innovation Hub hosted by NHS Lothian. You will act as a bridge between industry, academia and the NHS, helping innovative health ideas move from concept to real‑world implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Build and nurture partnerships across the NHS, academic institutions and private sector companies.
• Lead funding applications, secure external investment and identify financing opportunities for health innovations.
• Support SMEs in accessing NHS expertise, innovation pathways and test environments.
• Identify high‑impact innovation opportunities and develop strategies to accelerate adoption.
• Represent HISES within Scotland’s broader innovation ecosystem and promote collaborative projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development, innovation or R&D, preferably within healthcare or life sciences.
• Demonstrated success in securing funding or leading multi‑partner collaborations.
• Strong understanding of the NHS, life‑science sector and innovation pathways.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of healthcare or life‑science environments.
• Experience with funding application processes.
