Board Trustee – Finance & Fundraising

About the role
Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand is seeking two new Trustees to strengthen its Board, focusing on financial oversight and fundraising. As a Trustee you will share collective responsibility for the organisation’s governance, strategic direction and long‑term sustainability, bringing your expertise, networks and perspective to help achieve its human‑rights mission.
Key responsibilities
- Attend and actively contribute to Board meetings, including pre‑reading and preparation.
- Support the Chair, Vice‑Chair and Treasurer and ensure compliance with governance structures.
- Participate in global Amnesty initiatives, provide feedback on policy papers and attend international meetings as required.
- Represent Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand publicly when requested.
- Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, Board sub‑committees.
- For the Treasurer role: chair the Audit and Risk Committee, monitor the organisation’s financial health, advise the Board on financial risks and opportunities, ensure accurate records and present the audited annual financial statement.
Required profile
- Lived experience relevant to the human‑rights issues Amnesty works on, with particular encouragement for knowledge of Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Strong alignment with Amnesty International’s vision, mission, anti‑racist stance and feminist leadership principles.
- For the Treasurer: proven capability in financial governance and risk oversight.
