Board Member – Auckland Museum Trust

About the role

The Auckland Museum Trust Board is seeking a new member to provide strategic governance for one of Auckland’s most significant cultural and heritage institutions. The role involves guiding the Museum’s financial sustainability, overseeing major capital projects, and supporting its mission as a place of remembrance, learning, and community connection.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strong financial oversight, audit and risk guidance, and ensure value for money.
• Oversee delivery of major capital renewal and strategic asset‑management programmes.
• Identify and develop commercial growth opportunities and additional revenue streams.
• Support arts, cultural and heritage outcomes for Aucklanders.
• Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnerships and respect the Museum’s role as a war memorial.
• Collaborate with Auckland Council and the wider cultural sector.

Required profile

• Expertise in audit, risk management and financial governance.
• Experience leading or overseeing capital renewals and asset management projects.
• Background in the arts, culture or heritage sector is desirable, especially combined with finance or asset‑management experience.
• Passion for Auckland and improving outcomes for its residents.
