Azure Cloud Engineer – Auckland

About the role

As an Azure Cloud Engineer at Datacom in Auckland, you will manage and support customer Azure environments, driving cloud transformation, automation and DevOps/DevSecOps practices. The role involves on‑site delivery, on‑call after‑hours support and acting as a trusted advisor to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Advise customers on cloud technology, automation and DevOps/DevSecOps adoption.
• Ensure Azure environments remain secure, optimised and cost‑effective.
• Bridge application teams and support functions to enable smooth operations.
• Provide enablement, guidance and training on modern cloud practices.
• Participate in on‑site support and an on‑call roster for after‑hours incidents.

Required profile

• Passionate about cloud transformation, automation and solving customer challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with a business‑focused mindset.
• Ownership mindset and ability to resolve issues collaboratively.
• Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., AZ‑400, AZ‑104, AZ‑204, AZ‑500) are preferred.

Required skills

• Design, build, deploy and support Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS solutions.
• CI/CD pipeline creation and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, PowerShell.
• Hybrid and multi‑cloud architecture, tenancy, landing zones, policy, tagging and cost controls.
• Azure services: Virtual Machines, Functions/Serverless, Storage, Backup, OS and database hardening.
• Networking and security: IAM, security groups, VNet, NLB, WAF, DNS.
• Monitoring, logging and alerting configuration.
• Cloud‑native technologies: containers, serverless, data, ML/AI, IoT, APIs, micro‑services.
