Aviation Training Systems Engineer – RNZAF Ohakea

About the role

Beca Applied Technologies is seeking an Aviation Training Systems Engineer to join its team at RNZAF Ohakea, Manawatu. The role blends systems engineering, hands‑on maintenance of electrical and mechanical plant, and the development and delivery of technical or aircrew training. Candidates must be able to work safely in a client‑facing environment and obtain the required NZDF Defence Site Clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical and mechanical systems supporting aviation training equipment.
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate technical or aircrew training programmes.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and contractual KPIs.
• Collaborate closely with clients to understand requirements and provide clear, actionable solutions.
• Support occasional evening shifts to meet client operational needs.

Required profile

• Experience in maintaining electrical and mechanical systems in a safety‑critical environment.
• Proven ability to design and deliver technical training for aviation or defence personnel.
• Strong understanding of health and safety compliance and risk management.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical information into simple terms.
• Eligibility to obtain NZDF Defence Site Clearance or National Security Clearance.
