Automation Systems Engineer

About the role

Silver Fern Farms Takapau is seeking a motivated Automation Systems Engineer to maintain and install industrial automation equipment and systems at our large food processing site. The role works Monday‑Friday, 7 am‑4 pm, and requires strong communication, time‑management and an electrical qualification (Level 4 or higher).

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot existing automation equipment, including PLCs, VSDs and SCADA systems.
• Install new automation hardware and software, ensuring proper integration with plant processes.

Required profile

• Broad experience or sound knowledge of industrial automation (PLCs, VSDs, SCADA, Rockwell Automation, PC hardware/software).
• NZCE (Electrical) registration or tertiary IT/engineering qualification.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and preferably CAD.
• Good understanding of PC hardware, LAN networking and LV wiring.

Required skills

• PLC programming and configuration.
• Variable Speed Drives (VSD) operation.
• SCADA development (Ignition preferred) and HMI design.
• Rockwell Automation platforms.
• Electrical system design to AS/NZS, IEC, NFPA standards.
• LV wiring and troubleshooting.
