Associate Systems Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Associate Systems Engineer (internally titled Junior Systems Engineer) to join the University of Auckland’s centralised IT function on a permanent basis. You will work within an Agile micro‑service team, supporting core operating systems and business applications while developing your technical expertise across enterprise platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day administration, support and troubleshooting of operating systems, primarily Linux.
• Diagnose issues through log analysis and root‑cause investigation, implementing effective solutions.
• Support enterprise business systems and infrastructure, including proactive monitoring and alert response.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and team members in an Agile environment, contributing to design and delivery discussions.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance system performance and reliability.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of experience working with Linux systems (essential).
• Solid understanding of server operating systems, troubleshooting, performance analysis and log investigation.
• Experience diagnosing technical issues and identifying root causes in complex environments.
• Passion for technology and continuous learning.
• Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with stakeholders and team members.

• Full‑time permanent position (37.5 hours/week).
• Salary range $73,400 – $90,700 NZD per year, dependent on skills and experience.
