Associate Patent Attorney – ICT, Mechatronics & Electrical Engineering

About the role

AJ Park is seeking a motivated Associate Patent Attorney to join its Auckland team. You will work with a leading IP firm, helping clients protect, commercialise and enforce innovations across ICT, mechatronics and electrical engineering domains.

Key responsibilities

• Assess client invention proposals and advise on patentability.
• Prepare, file and prosecute patent applications in New Zealand, Australia and internationally.
• Draft patent specifications with a global focus and manage patent portfolios.
• Provide advice on infringement, validity and IP strategy.
• Support contentious matters and assist junior team members.
• Act as an ambassador for the firm, contributing to business development and thought leadership.

Required profile

• Registered Trans‑Tasman, UK, EP and/or US patent attorney.
• 2‑5 years post‑qualification experience.
• Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in ICT, electrical or mechatronics engineering.
• Strong commercial and critical thinking with excellent communication skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
