Associate Nurse Director (Patient Experience)

About the role

The Associate Nurse Director (Patient Experience) will join NHS Lothian’s Corporate Nursing Team, reporting to the Deputy Executive Nurse Director. This senior position carries operational responsibility for Volunteering, Patient Experience and Policy services, ensuring high‑quality delivery across local and national programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage resources and performance targets for three service areas: Volunteering, Patient Experience and Policy.
• Provide strategic and professional leadership to implement the Complaints Handling Procedure under the Patients Rights (Scotland) Act 2011.
• Lead development, implementation and evaluation of the NHS Lothian Strategic Volunteering Plan.
• Oversee a Policy Hub team that creates policies, guidelines, procedures, patient information and clinical documentation, and supports Board policy approval processes.
• Contribute to the Nursing and Midwifery Senior Management Team to drive regional priorities, national policy, quality improvement and clinical governance.

Required profile

• First‑level registered nurse or midwife.
• Master’s degree in a nursing/midwifery‑related subject (e.g., person‑centred care, healthcare management).
• Proven experience managing multiple services at a senior level within a complex, multidisciplinary clinical environment, preferably within the NHS.
• Demonstrated track record of operational service management and achievement of performance targets.
