Assistant Teacher – Support Students with Learning Challenges

About the role

Mastery Schools New Zealand is seeking enthusiastic Assistant Teachers to support students facing learning challenges. This role offers the opportunity to apply science‑of‑learning approaches and direct instruction in a caring, collaborative school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with in‑class teaching duties under the direction of a teacher.
• Facilitate and support small groups as directed.
• Maintain records of support strategies and curriculum.
• Adjust students’ Individual Learning Plans.
• Provide administrative support for teachers when needed.
• Supervise playground activities and accompany students on excursions.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in teacher education training.
• Clear criminal history check for working with children.
• Ability to engage young people in dynamic learning.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong relationship‑building abilities at all levels.
• Team player who can also work autonomously and take initiative.
