Assistant Registrar

About the role

The Assistant Registrar will support the Waitangi Tribunal’s operations by handling key registrarial functions, including claim registration, legal aid reporting and providing drafting assistance on legal and procedural matters.

Key responsibilities

• Register claims submitted to the Waitangi Tribunal.
• Prepare reports for Legal Aid applications.
• Provide drafting assistance and advice on legal and procedural issues.
• Conduct legal research, critique and analysis related to Tribunal jurisprudence.

Required profile

• LLB qualification or advanced study towards an LLB.
• Understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence.
• Experience working with Māori groups or organisations.
• Strong organisational, planning and legal writing skills.
• Desire to develop knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori (or existing understanding).

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis.
• Drafting of legal documents.
