Assistant Accountant

About the role

KPMG is seeking a detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant to join its finance team in New Zealand. The role supports the firm’s financial performance by ensuring accurate and timely reporting, cash‑flow forecasting and tax compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and complete high‑quality monthly and annual financial reports, including journal entries and general ledger analysis.
• Assist with cash‑flow forecasting by gathering and maintaining relevant financial data.
• Maintain tax compliance by preparing and filing GST and FBT returns accurately and on time.
• Provide data and administrative support for budgeting and management reporting.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations, identify discrepancies and ensure data reliability.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of experience in financial and management accounting.
• Strong understanding of journals, general ledger, and reconciliations.
• Ability to support monthly and annual financial reporting cycles.
• Knowledge of GST and FBT tax compliance requirements.
• Experience with cash‑flow forecasting and financial data management.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet reporting deadlines.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Competence in financial analysis and interpretation.
