Assistant Accountant

About the role

As an Assistant Accountant you will join Transam’s Central Accounting team in New Zealand, supporting the month‑end close and consolidation process for the group. Working closely with the New Zealand Accountant – Finance, you will ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance across a fast‑moving logistics business.

Key responsibilities

• Perform accounts payable coding for non‑PO invoices, review coding accuracy and allocate costs appropriately.
• Complete bank reconciliations, cash management activities and support cash‑related transactions.
• Manage intercompany recharges and fixed‑asset transactions including additions, disposals and depreciation.
• Prepare month‑end accruals, pre‑payment calculations and related journal entries.
• Execute balance‑sheet and intercompany reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution.
• Contribute to monthly management accounts with detailed financial analysis and commentary.
• Prepare and file GST and FBT returns in compliance with regulations.
• Assist with audit preparation and support optimisation of financial systems and workflows.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Minimum two years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• Familiarity with ERP platforms; experience with Oracle is an advantage.
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
