Architectural Designer – Residential Projects

About the role

Bespoke Architecture is seeking an Architectural Designer or Architect to join its high‑performing residential studio in Christchurch. You will work on a variety of high‑end custom homes and standard‑plan developments, turning client visions into built reality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead residential projects from concept through consent and construction.
• Meet directly with clients to capture their design intent and deliver tailored outcomes.
• Produce detailed architectural documentation in ArchiCAD, including plans, reports and consent submissions.
• Liaise with councils, consultants and contractors to ensure compliance and coordination.
• Provide hands‑on support across all phases, from site visits to spatial planning and construction assistance.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Architecture or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in New Zealand residential design.
• Strong knowledge of the NZ Building Code and NZS 3604, with familiarity of Auckland, CODC, QLDC and CCC regulations.
• Excellent communication, time‑management and client‑facing abilities.
• Professional membership (NZIA, ADNZ, LBP) is preferred but not essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ArchiCAD.
• In‑depth understanding of the NZ Building Code.
• Knowledge of NZS 3604.
• Familiarity with Auckland, CODC, QLDC and CCC regulations.
