Analyst, Economic Data & Analysis

About the role

We are looking for an Analyst to join the Strategy, Insights and Evidence directorate within the Policy and Trade business unit. The role focuses on providing economic data and analysis to support decision‑making for New Zealand’s primary sectors as they move toward a sustainable, low‑emissions future.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a sector in MPI’s Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries (SOPI) publication and develop subject‑matter expertise.
• Partner with senior analysts to produce economic research that enhances government understanding of food and fibre sectors.
• Build and maintain relationships with Māori, government, and non‑government stakeholders.
• Use data and analysis to improve policy advice and provide actionable information to stakeholders.

Required profile

• A tertiary qualification in economics, finance, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of macroeconomics and its application to New Zealand’s primary sector.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Curiosity, quick learning, and confidence to ask insightful questions.
