Allied Support Worker – Caregiver Recruitment & Support

About the role

Oranga Tamariki is seeking permanent Allied Support Workers to strengthen its Caregiver Recruitment and Support teams in Whangarei. Working under the direction of qualified Social Workers, you will help enable frontline teams to focus on statutory duties while you manage recruitment, training, and placement activities for caregivers supporting tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.

Key responsibilities

• Provide regional support based on operational priorities, including travel within and occasionally beyond the region.
• Engage with caregivers and communities to promote recruitment and outreach initiatives.
• Coordinate caregiver training programmes and support learning and development.
• Assist with caregiver assessments, approvals, support planning and ongoing case support.
• Gather information, develop caregiver profiles and facilitate placement and matching activities.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with caregivers, whānau, community organisations and internal stakeholders.
• Occasionally work outside normal business hours to meet service demand.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working in community settings, supporting people in need.
• Experience engaging with Māori and/or Pasifika cultures is highly valued.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally complex situations.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven capability to work collaboratively with peers and external stakeholders.
