Advisor Publishing – Judicial Decisions

About the role

We are seeking a digitally‑savvy Advisor Publishing with a legal background to join the Judicial Libraries team at the Ministry of Justice in Wellington. The role plays a key part in improving access to justice by ensuring that judicial decisions are published accurately, promptly and in compliance with suppression and privacy laws.

Key responsibilities

• Review, anonymise, peer‑review and publish judicial decisions across New Zealand courts and tribunals.
• Ensure all publications comply with suppression orders, statutory restrictions and privacy obligations.
• Respond to user enquiries and case requests related to Judicial Decisions Online (JDO).
• Manage publication workflows on a range of digital platforms and systems.
• Collaborate regularly with the judiciary, Ministry staff, court personnel, the legal profession and the public.

Required profile

• Legal qualification with ability to interpret and apply legislative requirements for judgment publication and suppression.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
• Confident communicator with well‑developed interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn new systems, processes and technologies.
• Understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori and its tikanga, and resilience when handling sensitive case material.
