About the role

This early‑career position offers the chance to support judicial leadership within New Zealand's constitutional framework. You will work on governance, strategy and project initiatives for the Office of the Chief Justice, contributing to the effective administration of the courts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality advice and practical support on judicial governance, strategy and project work.
• Contribute to a range of governance‑related initiatives, ensuring sound judgement and coordination.
• Engage with senior judicial stakeholders and maintain professional relationships across the judiciary.
• Manage shifting priorities in a fast‑paced environment while upholding confidentiality.
• Work both independently and collaboratively within a small, highly collaborative team.

Required profile

• 1–2 years experience in a governance, legal or policy‑related role, or a strong interest in transitioning to governance.
• Experience in fast‑paced environments with changing priorities.
• Confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders and building collaborative relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to organise work, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
• Interest in judicial governance, public‑sector decision‑making or the justice system.
• Experience in the justice or public sector is a plus but not essential.
