About the role

This position offers an early‑career professional the chance to support the Chief Justice’s office in New Zealand’s judicial system. Working within the Office of the Chief Justice (Te Tari), you will assist senior judicial leaders with governance, strategy and project initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality advice and practical support on judicial governance and strategic matters.
• Coordinate and contribute to a range of governance‑related projects, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Engage with senior stakeholders across the courts, fostering collaborative relationships.
• Respond to shifting priorities in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining confidentiality.
• Work both independently and as part of a small, highly collaborative team.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of experience in a governance, legal or policy‑related role, or a demonstrated interest in transitioning to governance.
• Experience in fast‑changing environments with changing priorities.
• Confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders and building collaborative relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
• Ability to organise work, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
• Interest in judicial governance, public‑sector decision‑making or the justice system; experience in the justice or public sector is a plus.
