Youth Worker – Kaikohe (Permanent Full‑time)

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to join our Kaikohe site on a permanent, full‑time basis. You will work collaboratively with tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau, supporting the implementation of non‑social‑work components of each young person’s plan and contributing to positive community outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Engage with whānau and other stakeholders involved in a rangatahi’s plan.
- Spend quality time with rangatahi, building trust and rapport.
- Work alongside Social Workers to deliver Care Standards and achieve positive outcomes.
- Attend multi‑agency meetings with police, education, health and community representatives.
- Coordinate and attend appointments for rangatahi, including transport to services that do not require a social worker.
- Facilitate activity‑based and recreational programmes.
- Support independence skills such as shopping and budgeting.
- Assist at Family Group Conferences and record administrative tasks.
- Support rangatahi in visits to mental health, education and other services, including occasional home visits.
Required profile
- Familiarity with Te Reo Māori and Tikanga.
- Full, clean NZ driver’s licence and willingness to drive work vehicles.
- Computer competency across Microsoft Office and other platforms.
- Understanding of Oranga Tamariki and cross‑cultural practices, especially Māori and Pacific cultures.
- Ability to connect with rangatahi, understand their challenges and motivations.
- Established community network and willingness to represent Oranga Tamariki at youth and sector forums.
- Strong written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
