Workday Functional Lead

About the role

The Workday Functional Lead will shape the future Workday environment for the University of Otago. Working with functional experts, business analysts, implementation partners and other specialists, you will design, configure and optimise Workday solutions that align with the university’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of future‑state business processes and Workday solutions across modules such as HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting, Learning and Time Tracking.
• Facilitate workshops to capture business requirements and define future‑state processes.
• Oversee data validation, migration accuracy and business process workflows.
• Guide solution design decisions, ensuring alignment with Workday best practices and minimising customisation.
• Provide strategic advice on Workday capabilities to ensure solutions meet business needs while leveraging standard functionality.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering Workday implementations or transformation projects.
• Strong functional expertise in one or more Workday modules.
• Solid understanding of Workday configuration, including business processes and security model.
• Deep knowledge of core HR and business processes and how they translate into Workday solutions.

• Full‑time (37.5 hours/week) fixed‑term contract for 12 months, based in Dunedin with remote flexibility and occasional travel.
