Venue Customer Experience Officer

About the role

The Venue Customer Experience Officer is the first point of contact for visitors, hirers, staff and performers at Te Puna Mahara – Cromwell Memorial Events Centre. You will help create a welcoming, safe and well‑organised environment while supporting day‑to‑day venue operations.

Key responsibilities

• Greet visitors, provide a warm and professional welcome in person, by phone and email.
• Direct people with bookings to the appropriate rooms or event spaces.
• Assist with venue bookings, ticketing and box‑office operations.
• Maintain up‑to‑date website content and booking/ticketing systems.
• Perform general administration tasks such as data entry and record keeping.
• Support retail operations and cover breaks when needed.
• Act as a Fire Warden after training and help with health‑and‑safety duties.
• Collaborate with the wider venue team and adapt to evolving facility needs.

Required profile

• Proven customer‑service experience, preferably in a reception or public‑facing role.
• Strong administration background with high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in busy or unexpected situations.
• Flexible, adaptable and willing to learn as the venue grows.
• Positive, team‑focused attitude with a strong sense of customer care.
• Willingness to undertake health‑and‑safety training, including fire‑warden duties.
• Experience in events, hospitality, tourism, retail or community facilities is an advantage.

Required skills

• Confidence using computer systems, including booking systems.
• Experience with ticketing systems.
• Familiarity with point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.
