Utility Worker

About the role

We are seeking a reliable, safety‑focused Utility Worker to join Northpower’s field crew. The role is hands‑on and outdoors, supporting the delivery of electricity and fibre infrastructure across the Whangārei and Kaipara regions. You will work as part of a team to prepare sites, perform labouring tasks and install utility equipment while adhering to strict health, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare work sites, identify hazards and establish safe work areas in line with Safe Work Practices.
• Carry out general utility and labouring duties such as trenching, digging, lifting and equipment installation.
• Identify underground services and obstructions before excavation.
• Ensure all tools, equipment and personal protective equipment are available, compliant and fit for purpose.
• Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, quality and environmental compliance at all times.
• Report hazards, incidents and near‑misses promptly and accurately.
• Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers and the public.

Required profile

• Experience in labouring or utility work (preferred).
• Comfortable with heavy lifting, digging, trenching and other manual tasks.
• Ability to read and understand plans and obstruction drawings.
• Full Class 1 & 2 driver licences (required); Class 4, Class 5 and WTR endorsements are an advantage.
• Excellent safety record and reliable, punctual work ethic.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
