Utilities Service Technician (Permanent, Full‑time)

About the role

Ringway is seeking experienced Utilities Service Technicians to join its Highways Term Maintenance and National Highways M & R Business Units. This permanent, full‑time position involves locating and identifying underground, above‑ground and overhead utility assets across highway projects.

Key responsibilities

• Locate and map utilities such as services, cables, ducts and pipework using specialised equipment.
• Provide technical support for contracts nationwide and advise on utility positioning during highway design.
• Consult with managers, supervisors and operatives, and participate in safety working groups.
• Prepare detailed proposals and professional advice on utility avoidance.
• Maintain compliance with current guidance, legislation and installation depth standards.

Required profile

• Proactive, ‘can‑do’ attitude with strong health‑and‑safety awareness.
• Ability to interpret risk assessments for design and construction phases.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Physically fit, able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Full driving licence.

Required skills

• Level 3 Utility Mapping certification.
• GS6 Overhead Line Training.
• Manual handling competence and knowledge of HSG47.
• Proficient use of CAT and Genny equipment.
• Ground Penetration Radar operation.
• Experience with cable‑avoidance tools and utility statutory drawings/plans.
