Transport Operations Centre Operator (Rotating Shifts)

About the role

As a Transport Operations Centre Operator based in Johnsonville, you will help keep New Zealand’s transport network running safely and reliably. Working on a 24/7 rotating roster, you will monitor both urban and rural routes, respond to incidents and provide timely traveller information.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the transport network and detect planned and unplanned events.
• Respond to reports from emergency services and manage incidents affecting route reliability and safety.
• Provide accurate and timely information to road users.
• Support the overall management of the transport system across New Zealand.
• Work initially with a buddy and later operate independently.

Required profile

• Solid customer‑service experience; call‑centre or incident management background is a plus.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize workload and stay calm under pressure.
• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
• Strong communication and relationship‑management skills.
• Confidence using technology and multiple systems.
• Willingness to work a rotating 24/7 shift roster.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a police security clearance.
• Willingness to learn and promote Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori and the Treaty of Waitangi.
