Team Leader – Project Management

About the role

Wellington Water is seeking a dynamic Team Leader to guide a group of Project Managers delivering critical infrastructure projects across the region. This full‑time position offers the chance to shape a high‑performing Project Management function at a pivotal stage of its growth.

Key responsibilities

• Provide functional leadership to a team of Project Managers handling a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
• Act as the primary link between project delivery and programme outcomes, ensuring risks, performance insights, and priorities are clearly communicated.
• Embed consistent governance, frameworks and best practices across all project delivery.
• Allocate project resources to balance capability, capacity and programme priorities.
• Lead selected complex or high‑risk projects, ensuring delivery against scope, time, cost, quality and safety targets.
• Support project teams with risk management, stakeholder engagement, commercial oversight and escalation handling.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Recognised project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2 or Agile.
• Proven experience leading Project Managers or technical delivery teams in complex infrastructure environments.
• Strong knowledge of project governance, delivery frameworks, risk management and reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders, consultants, contractors and community interests across multiple projects.
• Excellent leadership, communication and relationship‑building skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
