Structural Designer

About the role

Opal Specialty Packaging is looking for a skilled Structural Designer to join its Papatoetoe team. You will translate creative briefs into tangible corrugated packaging and point‑of‑sale displays, working with cutting‑edge digital print technology in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Account Managers to convert design briefs into structural solutions.
• Provide structural and design advice to sales, estimating, and operations teams.
• Create finished art and lay‑up sheets from customer artwork for production.
• Work with production and estimating to ensure designs are efficient to manufacture.
• Develop 3‑D renders for customer approval.
• Draft clear graphic assembly instructions for POS displays.
• Conduct structural integrity and conditional testing when required.

Required profile

• Solid background in structural, engineering, or architectural design.
• Hands‑on experience with design software such as ArtiosCAD.
• Strong technical aptitude, especially spatial reasoning and abstract thinking.
• Confidence to engage directly with customers and understand their needs.
• Basic knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
