Strategic Procurement Lead

About the role

Powerco, New Zealand’s second‑largest electricity and gas distributor, is seeking a Strategic Procurement Lead to design and embed an enterprise‑wide procurement framework. The role is permanent, flexible and hybrid, reporting to the Head of Legal within Corporate Services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and roll out a company‑wide procurement and sourcing framework that maximises value and manages risk.
• Create practical templates, documentation, processes and guidance to raise procurement capability across all business units.
• Provide strategic advice for network and non‑network projects, significant sourcing activities and supplier engagements.
• Champion consistent, efficient and proportionate procurement practices, especially for lower‑value purchases.
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and influence outcomes without direct authority.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in procurement, sourcing or commercial roles, preferably in energy, infrastructure or utilities.
• Proven ability to develop and apply enterprise procurement frameworks.
• Demonstrated success working across multiple business units and influencing senior leaders.
• Strong relationship‑building, communication and professional integrity.
