Specialist Pain Medicine Physician

About the role

We are seeking a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician to join the Pain Management Centre at Burwood Hospital, part of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand in Christchurch. The role can be full‑time or part‑time on a permanent basis and involves working within an interdisciplinary team to support patients with chronic non‑malignant pain.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver outpatient pain clinics and multidisciplinary programmes for chronic pain patients.
• Perform interventional pain procedures and supervise occasional inpatient admissions.
• Collaborate with physiotherapists, psychologists, nurses and other specialists to develop holistic care plans.
• Contribute to the centre’s effort to regain Faculty of Pain Medicine accreditation as a recognised training site.
• Participate in teaching and mentorship of junior clinicians.

Required profile

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Meets the qualification standards set by the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) of Australia and New Zealand, or successfully completes the self‑assessment for international medical graduates.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary pain management environment.
• Willingness to work on‑site at Burwood Hospital.
