Specialist Pain Medicine Physician

About the role

Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand is seeking a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician to join the innovative Pain Management Centre at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch. The role can be full‑time or part‑time and focuses on delivering comprehensive care for patients with chronic non‑malignant pain.

Key responsibilities

• Provide outpatient consultations and multidisciplinary pain management programmes.
• Perform interventional pain procedures and support occasional inpatient admissions.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to restore patients' functional abilities.
• Assist in rebuilding the centre and regaining Faculty of Pain Medicine accreditation as a recognised training site.
• Contribute to clinical governance, teaching and research activities within the pain specialty.

Required profile

• Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Qualification that meets the terms and conditions of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) in Australia and New Zealand.
• Holistic experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to work on a permanent contract, either full‑time or part‑time.
