Solutions Architect

About the role

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to lead the design and delivery of technology solutions for the Plant Health Environment Capability (PHEC) programme. Working across Wellington and Auckland, you will partner with business and technical stakeholders to ensure solutions are pragmatic, secure and aligned with MPI’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Define, maintain and communicate solution architecture designs for high‑priority initiatives.
• Support delivery teams by providing clear architectural guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Engage with vendors, service providers and internal stakeholders to design resilient, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
• Champion architecture designs through MPI governance forums, balancing delivery focus with data, privacy and security considerations.
• Translate complex technical concepts into plain language for diverse audiences.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Solutions Architect delivering complex, enterprise‑scale solutions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across business, technical and vendor groups.
• Self‑starting, adaptable professional comfortable working in a public‑sector environment.
• Outcome‑driven mindset with sound judgement and the ability to influence architectural decisions.
