Solar Project Engineer & Engineering Lead

About the role

Sunergy Solar is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the technical delivery of commercial and industrial solar PV projects across New Zealand. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility and design through to commissioning, performance validation, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of solar PV projects from feasibility, design, grid connection, construction support, to commissioning and performance validation.
• Develop and review electrical designs, including layouts, single‑line diagrams, CAD drawings, protection schemes, equipment selection and technical documentation.
• Conduct site assessments, load analysis, system sizing, and evaluate network constraints and installation methodology.
• Coordinate grid‑connection processes with electricity distribution businesses, retailers, consultants and other technical stakeholders.
• Review structural and mechanical inputs, identify technical roadblocks, and propose practical, compliant, and financially viable solutions.
• Contribute to the growth of Sunergy’s in‑house engineering capability and future design standards.

Required profile

• Multi‑disciplined engineer with strong electrical engineering background.
• Practical judgement and ability to understand how all project components interact.
• Comfort with reviewing technical inputs across electrical, structural and mechanical domains.
• Proactive problem‑solver who sees complexity as a challenge.
