Software Engineer – Spacecraft Operations

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and maintain ground‑software systems that enable spacecraft command, data handling, automation and visualization for missions ranging from low‑Earth orbit to interplanetary destinations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mission‑critical operations software for spacecraft command, data handling, automation and visualization across LEO, re‑entry, interplanetary and proximity missions.
• Build full‑stack web applications, including database schema design, back‑end services, front‑end interfaces and machine‑to‑machine communications for spacecraft operations.
• Provide on‑call technical expertise during live spacecraft operations and support ground‑based test campaigns.
• Architect scalable, versatile ground‑software systems that can evolve with diverse mission requirements.
• Lead technical initiatives such as scrum facilitation, code reviews, software‑architecture approvals and mentoring of junior engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience developing mission‑critical software for spacecraft or similar high‑reliability domains.
• Strong background in full‑stack web development and database design.
• Ability to work on‑call and support live mission phases.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including guiding technical discussions and mentoring junior team members.
