Software Engineer – FlightYield System

About the role

Join the FlightYield team at Airways to design, develop, test, document, deploy, maintain and support a real‑time critical billing system used across New Zealand's air traffic management. You will work on the existing platform and contribute to its future lifecycle replacement.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design and implement new features for the FlightYield system.
• Write, test and document high‑quality Java code.
• Maintain and optimise SQL‑based databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• Deploy releases and provide ongoing support for production environments.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure system reliability and performance.

Required profile

• Honours or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum two years of experience in a structured software development environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Resilience, agility and ownership of deliverables.

Required skills

• Java programming.
• SQL databases – PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server.
• Enterprise Java Bean development (beneficial).
• Application server management such as IBM WebSphere or GlassFish (beneficial).
